A new trailer for the H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society's adaptation of "The Whisperer in Darkness" is online:
Highlights include a working brain cylinder and several glimpses of the pseudo-crustaceous Mi-Go.
Sadly, this won't be an October 2010 release as originally planned; it looks like they're hoping to wrangle a TV or theatrical deal next year.
I'm petitioning ThinkGeek to start selling brain cylinders. And Red Lobster to add "pseudo-crustaceous" to their menu descriptions.

My brother found this, the HORROR-MOVIE-A-DAY review blog. The dude's sensibilities seem to fit mine pretty well, and obviously he's prolific. His style's straightforward, unpretentious, and he knows his genre. Only trick is, he's sometimes liberal with the spoilers, so if you haven't seen a given movie, proceed cautiously.

This is the song we were talking about the other day from that particular scene on Breaking Bad that involves the foil balloons. I was mentioning that the band is actually Brazilian, and we talked about how that was probably intentional?
Well anyways, here's the song/video. The band uses A LOT of native tribal influences, especially when it comes to the percussion. This song in particular is hugely native tribal percussion in it's structure and arrangement. I know you're not one for the metal, but I really do suggest you listen to the first full minute before giving up on it.
Also, the video is all stop motion puppetry by the same chick that won a ton of awards doing stop motion puppetry videos for Tool. It's a super cool video even if you don't dig on the music, and you oughta at least watch it even if you have to mute the music :P
(as a bonus, there's a giant skull with a tongue made out of a creepy baby head bouquet at 2:50)

Incidentally, if you haven't seen The Call of Cthulhu, and you can stomach the sanity-blasting horror of silent films, you should absolutely watch it. It's available from Netflix Instant, so there's no excuse.

Top Ten Greatest Beards in Horror History
Yep, exactly what it sounds like, though there's at least one non-horror movie on the list and that angers me. They picked the right winner, though. I figure that's the important thing.

Fantastic Fest bumper entries
A few of you have already seen these, but here are my entries to a contest held by Fantastic Fest at the Alamo Drafthouse. Basically, if any of these are chosen, it will play before some of the films. The rules were it had to be 30 seconds long, include someone under the age of 18, have a monster in it, and the last line of dialogue had to be the word 'fantastic'. Any feedback is appreciated.

Seizure Horror!
Something for my horror peeps...
Was talking on a message board about Jacob's Ladder, a film I'm not so big on, but it's got great atmosphere and I always loved the freaky, hyperspeed seizure spasms in it. Y'all know what I'm talking about, right? It's in tons of other movies and video games like Silent Hill now. Usually it looks like a high-speed head shake. It's very creepy.
Anyway, someone said the Jacob's Ladder guys based the effect on the paintings of Francis Bacon (1909-1992), and man, I can totally see it:
And I just thought that was cool.
