Got the new trailer here for the Warhammer 40K CGI movie. Crank up the volume for it. I wish the animation was a touch better, especially the mouth animation, but turning up the volume paves over some of the defects and makes you want to burn some Chaos Daemons.

Even though this sprite-animated cartoon looks just like you're watching a video game, I recommend watching it all the way through. It's like underground video game psychedelia! Features guest appearance by Christopher Walken and John Goodman from The Big Lebowski!

Someone took the amazing sequence from Pinocchio where the giant whale, Monstro, chases Pinocchio and Geppetto......and synched it up with the climactic music from Jaws.

Was reading an interview with EPIC MICKEY designer Warren Spector and he mentioned this little gem, an Oscar-nominated short from 1995 that he cites as one of the rare modern Mickey Mouse cartoons of merit.I gave it a watch and really enjoyed it.
The Sorcerer's Apprentice
While not horror in modern sense, the story behind the Fantasia animation (which visualized a symphony inspired by a poem inspired by a Greek story from nearly 2000 years ago) definitely takes on the form of a nightmare with which most everyone's familiar: being in over your head as a situation spirals out of control. Listen to the amazing music and see if you don't find yourself identifying rather eerily with one Mickey Mouse...NOTES:
*The sorcerer's name is never given in the wordless piece, but the Disney animators nicknamed him "Yen Sid" (read it backwards). Apparently he's in Kingdom Hearts II, and he's supposed to be the creator of the world of Oswald the Rabbit in Epic Mickey.
*Here's an English translation of Goethe's poem, which mirrors the Fantasia short right down to chopping up the brooms.
*One favorite scene: Mickey's extremely violent axe-chopping around 5:30
*The immediate follow-through, where the brooms resurrect is also pretty amazing. Almost zombie-like!

The more I read about EPIC MICKEY, the more interested I am. It got me poking around YouTube for strange old Disney stuff and Disney's spookier outings. As a result, I'm gonna devote the final week of the Halloween Blogstravaganza exclusively to Disney. I've got some really cool stuff lined up, starting with...

Disney's the last place you'd look to for horror, but it seems like they're going there. There's a new Wii-exclusive game coming out under the working title of EPIC MICKEY. It features dystopian Disney settings and eerie, steampunk versions of their characters. I'm posting early concept art for it, and here's the game's premise:
Before Walt Disney created Mickey Mouse, there was Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. That's actual history, not just some made-up shit, but the game's using his obscurity as its springboard. The conceit is that once upon a time, Mickey inadvertantly spilled paint thinner onto the magical model of Oswald's world, unknowingly leaving it scarred and twisted. Mickey goes on to fame and fortune, but Oswald and his people languish in this hellish Disney World, culminating in the kidnapping of Mickey to take revenge on him in their world.
Here are some glimpses of that world...
