Ketchup Bot Don't Give A Fuck
I have a suspicion this may have been funny mostly due to its presentation by John Rubio on his iPhone and the presence of alcohol, but at the LEOG recording last night we were cracking up at the ineptitude of the ketchup robot. And the outtakes were funnier. Both are presented for your perusal.

This is what I've been waiting for; it's here... now. Phones with the power of computers that use the environment as a display rather than a screen. Hitting the market this year, I figure a year or two more and they'll be a viable PC replacement option.

In not so breaking news that comes as a surprise to nobody, a local news outlet touts one more ridiculous reason for parents to panic about the safety of their children on the EEEEEVIIIL internet.

Ok, I've been saying the cost of one's fancy camera doens't matter for years and rolling my eyes at those that give me flack for my basic SLR. Here's proof. An entire professional fashion photoshoot shot with an iPhone 3GS. Skills and setup are what's really important... your $2000 camera means a big lotta not shit to me.

Getting Ready for Star Wars MMO on the Cheap
I was mentioning to Randy the other day that I would need to build a gaming box from scratch since all I have is a laptop these days and told him I thought I could do it for $400. It's not a top of the line rig by any means, but for a casual gamer that doesn't mind turning the eye candy down a hair, it should be fine.
The Star Wars MMO guys are saying they want to follow the WoW model of making the game playable on almost any computer and pretty on mid-high systems. Top of the line boxes should only be needed if you just have to have 1080p with EVERYTHING turned all the way up. This box should play SW on mid level settings without a hiccup without the video card. It should handle being on high (but not uber) with the optional video card added.
With the video card you're getting 85-90% of the performance of a gaming machine twice as expensive. Without the video card, you're getting a fairly high power PC for other tasks (photoshop, etc) for a damn low price that just happens to be able to play most games on "acceptable levels" so long as they aren't high end first person shooters.
I dunno if it was merely polite conversational interest or actual interest, but for anybody who wants to take a look, here is my potential build if I were to pull the trigger right now:
This build assumes you already have an OS (64 bit required for this much ram, drop to 3gb if you need 32 bit OS), case, monitor, keyboard, mouse. All components at least 4 of 5 stars on newegg customer reviews.
$100 - AMD Athlon II X4 - 2.9ghz x4 (quad core) - newegg (free 10ft HDMI cable included, shrug)
$50 ($40 after mail in rebate) - ECS AM3 mobo - 2 DDR3 slots, onboard GeForce 6100 video, PCI-e x16 - newegg
$97 - 4gb RAM - (2x2gb) g.skill ram ddr3 - newegg
$39 - Western Digital 160gb HDD - SATA 3gb/sec 8mb cache 7200rpm - newegg
$20 - LG DVD burner - Sata - newegg
$30 ($20 after mail in rebate) - 450 watt power supply - 2 PCIe, 20+4 connector - newegg
Total - $336 (does not include shipping or rebates)
Effective total - $328 (includes rebates and shipping, yeah mail in rebates were more savings than the cost of shipping)
Optional video card upgrade (very suggested)

I posted something similar before
...but it's matured and become much easier. Hulu, Pandora, Comedy Central, CBS, Southpark Studios, etc on the xbox, ps3, or wii. My experience is only with the xbox, but they claim it works on the others too. PlayOn streams these sites and a ridiculous amount more to the xbox as a standard media share just like you can stream your music to the xbox.
It's as simple as downloading the PC software, giving it your login info for any streaming sites you want to use, and going to "PlayOn" under sources on the xbox's video library section. Seriously, took me about 15 minutes to set up and it just works; no complex configuration needed. It looks great too, so long as your PC has the balls to get the job done.
I've been using it with no major issues for a few days. The software costs $40 but you get a 15 day free trail to try it out before deciding to pay for it... but to me, it's way worth it.
