EPIC

Just posted this on Facebook, but a video this epic needs multiple venues. What follows is clips of the season finale of SMALLVILLE where Clark finally wore the Superman costume...

...and one fan's reaction. I don't even care that it's 95% likely to be fake.

ALSO not Halloween related, but...

Got the new trailer here for the Warhammer 40K CGI movie. Crank up the volume for it. I wish the animation was a touch better, especially the mouth animation, but turning up the volume paves over some of the defects and makes you want to burn some Chaos Daemons.

Screw the dogs of Moscow

It's shark-riding, rpg-toting raptors I'm afraid of

Samurai Hacker Ben

So I commissioned Thomas Reidy to do an illustration of me for an upcoming web site redesign. We may have gotten a little carried away with the awesomeness. Would you hire this man to build your web site?

I AM MAKE YOUR WEB SITE NOW ELSE YOU DIE!

30 Movies in 30 Days - JOIN IN!

So the Benbo is running one of their movie geek-out challenges. The goal for each participant is to watch 30 movies during the 30 days of January. There's no prize if you make it other than you got to see 30 (hopefully) kick-ass movies. And if you don't make it, you don't die or anything. The idea is to try it, see how many you can manage, and have fun talking about what you do see.

Right now I know several of the guys at Rogues Gallery are participating and everyone's invited. S'gonna be fun :)

Here are the official parameters, mostly just there to spice things up. Ignore them completely if you want:

-5 Films from the same writer (screenplay writer)
-5 Films centered around the same event/time period
-10 Films from each year of the 00s (1 from each year)
-10 Films of your choice

and 10 Films from the categories above must be films you've not seen before.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Of course these can overlap. For example if you watched 5 films from the same screenplay writer that you've never seen before, that would knock off the same screnplay writer category and half of the 10 new films required! Then you can use the remaining films to watch whatever you want.

Post what you plan to watch in the comments!

This might've been posted before...

But if so, it's good enough to be posted twice.

For all the RPG geeks in da house...

Ben's Hot List

I begin by noting my disdain for previously-posted "hot" lists. I have yet to see a single item that reaches even 40 °C; positively frigid by comparison to my list.

Number Three: The Sun

Yohkohimage.gif

While it is outclassed by the remainder of the list at a with a tepid surface of temperature of just 5900° C, I include it here because of its personal significance. In fact, it's quite likely that without it, I would never have been born!

Number Two: HD 93129A

When it comes to astronomical phenomena, now we're getting somewhere. At 52,000° C on its surface, HD 93129A is one of the brightest stars in our galaxy, and positively balmy. HD 93129A isn't for those who prefer their hotties pint-sized, however, as most of you seem to do; its radius is 25 times that of our sun. (Personally, I think it's long past time for the trend towards skeletal, boyish hotties to be taken out back and shot.)

Number One: The Large Hadron Collider

0910152_01-A5-at-72-dpi.jpg

Spanning the French-Swiss border, 100 meters underground, lurks a 27 km long beast capable of melting protons. Firing ions at 99.99% the speed of light, the Large Hadron Collider will produce 600 million collisions per second, each at a temperature (well, energy) of 166,306,000,000,000,000 °C. Incidentally, this is how the world ends: the Swiss accidentally make a black hole and crack the Earth in half.

I'd like to see Angelina Jolie try that.

The Phantom Returns

Nope, not a Halloween Blogstravaganza post - just a preview of the new Sci-Fi Channel original series that revamps the semi-famous pulp hero. I sorta like it for what it is, but...

One thing that kinda sucks: they wuss out on the old purple jumpsuit, only to replace it with some kind of gaylord bulletproof vest and hoodie. Wha?

Man up. The Phantom's got jungle training an' shit to dodge bullets. He don't need a vest. Purple bodysuit or nothing.

Less demon trailers, more exploding shit trailers!

Roland "Independence Day" Emmerich's 2012:

I have to confess to some guilty pleasure interest. Independenace Day is quite watchable, as is his other future-disaster movie, The Day After Tomorrow. In the "fail" column we have The Patriot, Godzilla and 10000 B.C. Maybe a Netflix.

G.I. Joe teaser trailer

Here's the teaser trailer slated to run during the Superbowl. You have two options to watch it:

Hi-Def Quicktime

Or good ol', grainy YouTube:

Geek Notes:

*Definitely a "set-up" movie, as Destro (played by Doctor Who's Christopher Eccleston) seems to be the main badguy. Saving Cobra Commander for the "to be continued" ending?

*Why the fuck ain't Destro in his pimp mask? This blog has a "smoove pimpin' Destro" tag and I refuse to use it for this!

*The action looks decent as it flies by impossibly fast, but I'm not wild about the acrobatics element. Apparently the Joes have some kind of next-gen armor that enhances their strength and agility. WTF, yo? Works for Snake-Eyes, not the others.

*As we all suspected...the Baroness and her breasteses look pretty cool.

Because you really should know the lyrics
