Grape Drink

Excellent bit of Dave Chapelle stand up that's been stuck in my head lately...

Eddie Izzard on Star Wars

It's got so-so Lego animation someone made to accompany it, but I just listened to it as audio. It's pretty awesome.

The unfunniest blog post ever

Okay, I know we don't usually do the serious thing here on the blog, but I came across an interview on NPR I thought was pretty remarkable. In it, best interviewer ever, Terry Gross, talks to comedian Robert Shimmel about surviving cancer. I've never heard Shimmel's comedy before but I found him pretty spellbinding in his frankness and there actually is some funny shit in there - including the rivalry between John Tesh and Yanni!

Interested in something different? Give it a shot.

George Carlin, 1937-2008

The first comedian I ever truly loved is gone. What a bummer. I remember watching "Carlin at Carnegie Hall" with my family when I was nine, and not only was it awesomely hilarious, it also had a point of view.

I guess he's with Joe Pesci now, and if you don't get that reference, you need to watch this (warning: total anti-religious rant)...

But it seems maybe the best epitaph for him is this little excerpt...

"The most unfair thing about life is the way it ends. I mean, life is tough. It takes up a lot of your time. What do you get at the end of it? A Death! What’s that, a bonus? I think the life cycle is all backwards. You should die first, get it out of the way. Then you live in an old age home. You get kicked out when you’re too young, you get a gold watch, you go to work. You work forty years until you’re young enough to enjoy your retirement. You do drugs, alcohol, you party, you get ready for high school. You go to grade school, you become a kid, you play, you have no responsibilities, you become a little baby, you go back into the womb, you spend your last nine months floating…

…and you finish off as an orgasm."

"I'm fucking Matt Damon!"

Well, Sarah Silverman is, anyway.

Breaking the news to boyfriend Jimmy Kimmel:

Steve Martin on Comedy

Really good essay from Steve Martin on how he developed his comedy style.

And here's the comedy act for dogs that he talked about:

Bill Hicks's Birthday

If Bill Hicks had survived cancer, he'd be... well, he'd still be dead, because a second Bush administration would have killed him. But in celebration of what would be his 46th birthday, I present a few classic Hicks routines:

Takin' down the hecklers...

Two delivered with rage...

George Carlin (audio only)

Bill Hicks

And Kevin Smith with a more nuanced approach (relatively speaking):
