30 Movies in 30 Days

The Benbo's doing another one of these in September. Who has the time, right? But I'm trying it anyway. I think I hit the low-20s last time, and even if I only make half as many, it's a good excuse to catch stuff I've been meaning to.

Here're the parameters if anyone wants to join in:

-5 films that are in Black and White
-5 films that are "Old Favorites" that you haven't watched in a some time
-5 films from the same Producer
-5 films from the 90s
-5 films that someone has viewed in a previous 30/30 challenge
-5 films of your choice

I'm still figuring out my plans, but will post in the comments when I do...

Breaking Bad criminal aptitude test

http://blogs.amctv.com/breaking-bad/2010/07/criminal-aptitude-test-results.php

I took it twice because on a few of the questions I was totally torn on the answers. Apparently, I am half Walter White and half Badger. (I guess badgers and platypi *would* be friendly with each other...)

30 Movies in 30 Days - JOIN IN!

So the Benbo is running one of their movie geek-out challenges. The goal for each participant is to watch 30 movies during the 30 days of January. There's no prize if you make it other than you got to see 30 (hopefully) kick-ass movies. And if you don't make it, you don't die or anything. The idea is to try it, see how many you can manage, and have fun talking about what you do see.

Right now I know several of the guys at Rogues Gallery are participating and everyone's invited. S'gonna be fun :)

Here are the official parameters, mostly just there to spice things up. Ignore them completely if you want:

-5 Films from the same writer (screenplay writer)
-5 Films centered around the same event/time period
-10 Films from each year of the 00s (1 from each year)
-10 Films of your choice

and 10 Films from the categories above must be films you've not seen before.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Of course these can overlap. For example if you watched 5 films from the same screenplay writer that you've never seen before, that would knock off the same screnplay writer category and half of the 10 new films required! Then you can use the remaining films to watch whatever you want.

Post what you plan to watch in the comments!

The Hot List

Yup, I'm resurrecting the meme! It's been about a year or so, so I thought it was about time. Please join in on the fun. Oh and yeah, it's MANDATORY!

1. Olivia Williams - Probably recognize her as the woman who played Bruce Willis' wife in Sixth Sense (or possibly as Moira McTaggart in the abomination that is X3), but she's been one of the standouts on the Joss Whedon show Dollhouse as a seemingly cold-hearted bitch. Plus she's British, which doesn't hurt in my book.

2. Jaime Ray Newman - A veteran of the television world, appearing on things like Heroes, Veronica Mars, and the recent incarnation of The Witches of Eastwick...Newman really caught my attention with her portrayal of the geeky / super-smart scientist Tess Fontana on Eureka. She simply seems like a happy person that just happens to be hot too.

3. Emily Deschanel - The hotter of the Deschanel sisters. Of that, there is no doubt in my mind. There's also the fact that she could probably kick the crap out of me. Why that is a turn on...I have no idea.

4. Alison Lohman - During my less than stellar watching of Horror movies during the month of October, I caught the Raimi helmed picture Drag Me To Hell. Lohman made an impact as the cute, girl next door who just so happened to be fighting goat demons in her spare time. I like that in a girl.

5. Diane Kruger - For her participation in the "fantastic" National Treasure movies alone, she makes this list. But she's also gorgeous to boot and I believe capped a few Nazis in Inglorious Basterds too, which can't be overlooked.

Horror Movie Questionnaire!

You don't have to answer all the following questions, but you do have to answer some. Not only is it MANDATORY, but I'll cry if you don't.

1) Name a horror movie that scared you so bad it stayed with you for a while (or at least made you look behind the shower curtain when you went to the bathroom).

2) What's a vampire movie you like? Doesn't have to be a favorite, just one you dig.

3) What movie do other people think is scary but it doesn't get to you?

4) What horror movie has some music in it you like?

5) Name a character you really like from a horror movie. Note: you don't have to look up details. It's okay to say, "The gun nuts from Tremors."

6) Remakes suck! But assuming you could magically make one that was good, pick a horror movie candidate.

New Pop Culture Meme

From NPR's Monkey See Monkey Do Blog:

1. What has been your biggest pleasant surprise of the last three months? (This takes you, so you don't have to do math, back to late May.)

2. What has been the rudest surprise of the last three months?

3. What are you most looking forward to between now and New Year's?

4. What are you dreading most between now and New Year's?

5. If, at this moment, you could only watch television between now and December 31, or you could only see movies between now and December 31, which would you choose if you knew you couldn't go back later and catch up on what you missed?

6. If you could press one book you have read this year into the hands of ten strangers when they were trapped during a blackout with nothing to do but read, what would you give them?

7. What are you currently trying to like and finding it difficult to like?

8. If you could guarantee that five people -- actors, writers, directors, whoever -- would have their calendars filled with funded projects for the next five years, to whom would you grant full employment?

9. What do you love in spite of being outside the target demographic? (Example: "I am a nineteen-year-old dude and I loved The Proposal.")

10. If you could personally wave your wand and stop one trend -- toy movies, remakes, crime procedurals -- what would be your target?

Time Magaine's Top 100 Most Influential People of 2009

I saw the poll and lol'd a bit. "moot" is the guy that owns and operates the 4chan servers.

I. AM.

A very shiny forehead.

A douchebag.

This unremarkable pile of rocks (that I totally Rorschach'd as a gorilla head)

So, it's a bit late, but Cindy Roberts is...

a "new, rocking, and very cool country (singer)... redefines the blue side of country in a collection of songs about love, hurt, hope and happiness in a style that is most definitely all her own."

A Sherlock Holmes-quoting Statistics professor who likes to hang out with creepy plastic Tom Hankses.

And of course, of sultry black woman (?) who likes to sing karaoke with a man named Smooth.

I can haz pikshurs

I am a New Hampshire dude searching for his lost inventory:

I am a magical winter wonderland pony and I love you:

But most of all I am hot gayness

Who I is:

Unfortunately a Texas State Representative has swiped the excellent name of Dave Farabee, but while he IS amusingly dorky looking, I skipped over anything related to him or to comic reviews. And what I got was...

DAVE BASSMASTER!

DAVE EUROTRASH!

And just going based on intuition, a guy who can only be...

DAVE KLANSMAN!

Who am I, you ask?

I am:

An overly tanned brunette with a cute blue dress, who likes The Goonies.

A hot, blonde, drunky nurse from the UK who gets hot for superheroes.

A little tiger!!! (I think I may actually be doing some sort of research on wee tigers, but, ya know, whatever.)

Who are you? D3 edition

First Result: either a liberal college professor, or a pedophile.

Second Result: The Whiskey Cave... FTW

Third Result: the FBI guy that's going to bust the pedo in the first result

Who Are You?

From Alex Robinson's blog, a new meme: Google Image search your name and post the first three images that aren't you. (Or, if you're a comic reviewer like a lot of us, the first three images that aren't related to your own stuff on the web - I didn't want to post three comic book covers or sketches.)

There is apparently a version of me who works for Boeing in Japan.

Another version of me sends this disturbing picture of dog in costume from Fort Myers, Florida.

And I honestly have no idea what this is. It's Randy Landers, with an "s", so it's sort of cheating, but I got tired of looking through pages.

WHICH LANTERN ARE YOU?

Yeah, I know... but I think we were talking about this very thing the other day when we came up with the "Funk Lanterns," so I figured I'd post it.
