Dave and I have been talking about this for a long time now, and I've decided 2008 is the year I'm going to make it happen: A monthly movie night! The plan is to gather at The Lander House on the fourth Sunday of the month and watch a couple of movies, as picked by me and Dave during one of our inevitably random conversations about movies one of us has or hasn't seen.
We're kicking it off on January 27th with some '80s/'90s action cheese, starting with Navy Seals (starring James Cameron mainstays Michael Biehn and Bill Paxton, The Unit's Dennis Haysbert in his first role as a special op and Charlie Sheen as the guy who's addicted to action. In other words, as Charlie Sheen. Directed by Lewis Teague, who went on to helm extremely important episodes of Nash Bridges, Fortune Hunter and Time Trax.)
The double feature on the bill is Commando, the '80s actioner starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bill Duke and the smoldering sexuality of both Alyssa Milano and Dan Hedeya! Written by Jeph Loeb, the man who gave us a giant Composite Superman/Batman robot piloted by Captain Atom, a group of Wolf-themed villains that included the decidedly unwolflike Sasquatch and, of course, Red Hulk.
It's gonna be awesome*. We'll kick things off at about 7:30 so that Nick Budd, closing at the Rogues Gallery, can attend without missing too much if he wants. And we'll be picking more movies throughout the year. It won't *always* be cheesy, but there will probably never be a Merchant Ivory double feature or anything.
*Note: It will probably *not* be awesome. But it should be fun.
