MONSTER MASH-UP: THE SEQUEL (iPod shuffle challenge!)

This worked out awesomely last year, so let's do it again! You remember the deal: you're scoring the trailers for several upcoming horror movies, so put your iPod or MP3 player of choice on shuffle and post the first song you hit for each trailer. That song is the centerpiece of the trailer, and you should write a few lines about how it'd fit the trailer or where it kicks in. Does it make it a comedy? Does it make it a teen movie? A freaky foreign flick? Follow the link to last year's challenge for bitchin' examples.

Here're the new trailer concepts:

1) Haunted House
2) Mad Scientist
3) The Devil!
4) Creepy Aliens
5) SEQUEL! (Choose one of your movies from last year and score its sequel trailer. Pick the movie first, then hit shuffle - no cheats! If you didn't participate last year, your trailer topic is...MUMMY!)

Reminder: You might want to skip the orchestral stuff to avoid being too on the nose and go with mainly pop music.

A new trailer for the H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society's adaptation of "The Whisperer in Darkness" is online:

Highlights include a working brain cylinder and several glimpses of the pseudo-crustaceous Mi-Go.

Sadly, this won't be an October 2010 release as originally planned; it looks like they're hoping to wrangle a TV or theatrical deal next year.

I'm petitioning ThinkGeek to start selling brain cylinders. And Red Lobster to add "pseudo-crustaceous" to their menu descriptions.

My brother found this, the HORROR-MOVIE-A-DAY review blog. The dude's sensibilities seem to fit mine pretty well, and obviously he's prolific. His style's straightforward, unpretentious, and he knows his genre. Only trick is, he's sometimes liberal with the spoilers, so if you haven't seen a given movie, proceed cautiously.

Haunted Legend of Zelda cartridge

By now I figure everyone's read the amazing Dionaea House and Ted's Caving Page. What I've got here is another example of creepy metafiction, notable for its unlikely source - a Legend of Zelda cartridge - and its surprisingly effective (and ridiculously detailed) execution. I think it starts a little hokey, but the deeper you get into it, the more real it seems.

There're even YouTube vids that accompany it.

As per tradition, I'll be making at least one horror-themed post from now till Halloween night. Everyone's invited to join in. Post ghost stories, YouTube vids of UFOs, creepy horror art - anything that fits the Halloween theme!

I thought this was pretty awesome

Someone took the amazing sequence from Pinocchio where the giant whale, Monstro, chases Pinocchio and Geppetto...

...and synched it up with the climactic music from Jaws.
