Old Skool Nostalgia

I was doing a computer back up and I found some old pdfs of Chainmail and 1st ed D&D (little brown books) that I bought at Drive Through RPG (http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/index.php) back when WOC was selling all the old TSR stuff in pdf several years ago. I was glancing through and I got a bit nostalgic:
Remember when there were only 3 classes (Fighting Man, Magic-User, and Cleric)?
Remember when there were only men, elves, dwarves, and hobbits?
Remember when all weapons only did 1d6?
Remember when there were no prestige classes? No splat books? Green large print character sheets? Only one blue stapled together rulebook?
Those were simpler, magical, times for me. When my imagination filled in what my character carried and no need for an Arms and Equipment Guide or encumbrance . One set of dice (the DM's). No miniatures. No multiple copies of rulebooks and laptops filled with rules. The DM was law. He set my imagination in motion and anything he said was cannon. I lived the adventure in my head. My mind's eye saw my Prince Valiant like fighter (he didn't even have a name) fight terrible goblins and scary animated skeletons each encounter a near-character-death experience. 45 minutes of excitement until I had to get off at my bus-stop. The thrill of my first real game session that lasted an evening! I cherish those first role-playing experiences and miss the simplicity and innocence/nativity of rules. Part of me wishes to go back to 1983...wipe my mind of all things rules, game systems, business of gaming, marketing, popular opinion, media, and movies and to experience it all again for the first time and FEEL the magic again.
Props to the old Skoolers Gygax and Arneson. I met them both before they passed and that I treasure. I even gamed with Dave Arneson back in the day at Origins. They were guys like me just wanting to have fun and experience the magic.
My first D&D book, $2 at the Montgomery Wards mail order damages store:

Don't. Play it. ALONE.

Because I was talking about it this morning with Jason Murphy, I give you the vintage trailer for 80s schlock horror classic, Witchboard - a star-making vehicle for Tawny "Whitesnake's Slut" Kitaen!
Politics & D&D
An excerpt:
HILARY: WTF you guys. Why am I playing the cleric?
MCCAIN: Hilary, we've been over this.
HILARY: No, dude. I am so sick of being the girlfriend healer. Seriously, I can't even use a sword. Fuck this noise.
KUCINICH: IM A BARD
OBAMA: That's nice.
KUCINICH: MY FAMILIAR IS A PURPLE SNOW LEOPARD
MCCAIN: Oh, Jesus. Here we go.
KUCINICH: DID I MENTION MY WIFE IS A TOTALLY BANGIN DRYAD WITH 20 CHARISMA
HILARY: C'mon you guys, I've been playing this shit since Gygax was in eighth grade. Why can't I be the party leader with the magic sword for once?

Italian Spiderman - The Adventures Begin
Remember the awesome trailer for Italian Spiderman?
Apparently it was popular enough that a movie has begun! Well, a YouTube movie. And here's part one!
(stick through the slow, Ennio Morricone-like opening minute; the shit hits the fan shortly thereafter)

Maybe it'll be cooler in practice?
Because the screenshot previews of the online component of D&D 4th Ed. don't looks so hot.
On the plus side, the game itself looks to be shaping up really nicely.

Neutral Good Human Ranger/Rogue (3rd/2nd Level)
Find out:
What Kind of Dungeons and Dragons Character Would You Be?
I Am A: Neutral Good Human Ranger/Rogue (3rd/2nd Level)
Ability Scores:
Strength-13
Dexterity-17
Constitution-15
Intelligence-12
Wisdom-15
Charisma-17
Alignment:
Neutral Good A neutral good character does the best that a good person can do. He is devoted to helping others. He works with kings and magistrates but does not feel beholden to them. Neutral good is the best alignment you can be because it means doing what is good without bias for or against order. However, neutral good can be a dangerous alignment because because it advances mediocrity by limiting the actions of the truly capable.
Race:
Humans are the most adaptable of the common races. Short generations and a penchant for migration and conquest have made them physically diverse as well. Humans are often unorthodox in their dress, sporting unusual hairstyles, fanciful clothes, tattoos, and the like.
Primary Class:
Rangers are skilled stalkers and hunters who make their home in the woods. Their martial skill is nearly the equal of the fighter, but they lack the latter's dedication to the craft of fighting. Instead, the ranger focuses his skills and training on a specific enemy a type of creature he bears a vengeful grudge against and hunts above all others. Rangers often accept the role of protector, aiding those who live in or travel through the woods. His skills allow him to move quietly and stick to the shadows, especially in natural settings, and he also has special knowledge of certain types of creatures. Finally, an experienced ranger has such a tie to nature that he can actually draw on natural power to cast divine spells, much as a druid does, and like a druid he is often accompanied by animal companions. A ranger's Wisdom score should be high, as this determines the maximum spell level that he can cast.
Secondary Class:
Rogues have little in common with each other. While some - maybe even the majority - are stealthy thieves, many serve as scouts, spies, investigators, diplomats, and simple thugs. Rogues are versatile, adaptable, and skilled at getting what others don't want them to get. While not equal to a fighter in combat, a rogue knows how to hit where it hurts, and a sneak attack can dish out a lot of damage. Rogues also seem to have a sixth sense when it comes to avoiding danger. Experienced rogues develop nearly magical powers and skills as they master the arts of stealth, evasion, and sneak attacks. In addition, while not capable of casting spells on their own, a rogue can sometimes 'fake it' well enough to cast spells from scrolls, activate wands, and use just about any other magic item.

Panty Explosion (shamelessly copy and pasted from the Beat)
Did you ever want to be a Japanese schoolgirl? Well now you can in a new RPG called Panty Explosion! In Atarashi Games’ Panty Explosion ($20) players take on the roles of psychic Japanese schoolgirls and battle nightmarish demons, ghosts, government agents and even each other. Like the typical “magical girl” manga or anime, Panty Explosion mixes the mundane and the macabre, the petty trials and tribulations of high school life and the life or death struggle against supernatural monsters. The rules encourage teamwork and creativity while focusing on friendship and storytelling. Anime and manga fans with an interest in immersive role-playing will be able to bring the experiences they have gained watching and reading their favorite magical girl sagas to this game.
Atarashi’s second gave is called Classroom Death Match, and ICv2 reports they also have a yaoi RPG in the works. You can go here and download a DEMO of Panty Explosion, which seemingly contains magic and monsters instead of crying in the bathroom, worries over monthly bloat, and shopping for knee high white socks.
You can also sing “Let’s play Panty Explosion” to the tune of “Master and Servant” by DMode!
