(Oh, and the NSFW part is only because there's a handful of glimpses of naughty manga intercut in the video. The stuff with Dunst is fairly tame.)

The story behind it:
Dunst's cosplaying was part of a collaboration between McG, the director behind Terminator Salvation and Charlie's Angles, and Takashi Murakami, Japan's most famous living artist.
Dressed in an anime-style sailor suit, Dunst prances through Akiba, singing The Vapors' 1980 new wave smash "Turning Japanese", as a magical princess. (Dunst herself is a Sailor Moon fan.) The video, which was shown at the Tate Modern "Pop Life" exhibit last year, features appearances by Murakami and Bape designer Nigo.
I imagine this is very every-day for Japan.
ReplyDeleteAlso- sad to inform you, but you missed the Over NINE THOUSAND tag.
But Japan doesn't usually have Kirsten Dunst and she's super-cool as a magical sailor princess whatever!
ReplyDeleteMcG, you are forgiven for Charlie's Angels 2.
ReplyDeleteKirsten, you are forgiven for being bitchy about comics in the wake of the Spider-Man movies.
McG was already working on his redemption by producing Chuck.
ReplyDeleteIt never ceases to amaze me how McG can take things that should be awesome (Drew Barrymore with stripper pole, Christian Bale as John Conner, this), and turns them into something so boring.
ReplyDeleteSometimes I don't know why we bothered adding the "rainbows & unicorns" to the blog...
