Soul Tribute

I'm a big fan of the soul/funk/R&B explosion of the 60s and 70s, and I just saw that one of the great songwriters, Norman Whitfield, died. He wrote (or co-wrote) songs like "I Heard it Through the Grapevine" and "Papa Was a Rolling Stone." Big stuff. Cornerstone stuff. More info here, but for now, the best tribute is his music itself (all live versions here)...

"Papa Was a Rolling Stone"

"I Heard it Through the Grapevine" (my fave version by Gladys Knight)

"War"

"Smiling Faces" (this video's both awesome and terrifying - you'll see why)
