My guy list, All-Japan edition

1. Ken Watanabe. He's been in a million movies, the most familiar of which are probably Batman Begins, The Last Samurai, and Memoirs of a Geisha. He was also in an old TV show that ruled called Baian the Assassin, where he played an acupuncturist who killed people for money.

2. Takeshi "Beat" Kitano. Actor and director extraordinaire. His remake of Zatoichi was surprisingly musical but fun, and Sonatine was dark but cool.

3. Hiroyuki Sanada. Another famous actor, I know him from The Twilight Samurai and The Last Samurai, but he's done tons more movies than that, including Rush Hour 3. He's in the new Speed Racer movie.

4. Takashi Shimura. One of Japan's best film actors ever, he was in just about every movie Kurosawa ever did, and other stuff you may have heard of like Gojira. He's dead, but I'd still rather spend time with him than most of the current celebrities.

5. Razor Ramon Hard Gay. This guy does all sorts of work for the community and is nice as can be. So what if he loves the pelvic thrust? Foooooo!

  1. Very cool. I have a Pan-Asian collary to my own list as well - Toshiro Mifune, Chow Yun Fat, and Jet Li are 3 of the coolest motherfuckers ever, although those last two haven't made too many good movies post-Hong Kong.

Tsui Hark is a director and producer responsible for a ton of very fine HK action cinema. According to imdb he's produced 56 and directed 43 movies. Even if there's some overlap there that fits my definition of a fuck-ton. He went to film school here at UT(!) and when he came back to introduce The Blade (his version of the one-armed swordsman tale), he did so wearing black leather pants! A badass!

My Asian female celeb list would probably require its own blog.
