1979 homicide cold case comes to a close

A 27-year-old homicide case was resolved Thursday when Judge Richard Curtis convicted Joe Quesada of voluntary manslaughter.

Quesada faces up to 10 years and four months in state prison when he is sentenced Oct. 11.

He was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter with the use of a firearm, assault with a firearm and being an ex-felon in possession of a firearm in the death of Roberto Moya, who was shot dead inside a Pajaro bar after a quarrel in September 1979.

After the shooting, Quesada fled to Mexico and the rifle used in the shooting was never recovered. A warrant for Quesada's arrest was issued soon after the slaying.

He was apprehended earlier this year when trying to cross the border into Mexico.
